Our Mission

The Preservation League of Staten Island (PLSI) works for the conservation and continued vitality of Staten Island's historic resources. The League was founded in 1977 by a group of community-minded citizens concerned about Staten Island's vanishing historic environment. We sponsor programs about the recognition, care and restoration of historic properties. We have given neighborhood and historic house tours and we confer annual awards for outstanding preservation work. Landmark designation for significant sites is a priority.

Please take a look at our coverage on NY 1 and Join us at the next Community Board #1 Meeting- TONIGHT! Thank you.

Join us on Tuesday, Dec 13th for a Community Board 1meeting at 8 p.mTonight!  Make a statement of Support-
  • the 'Castle' must remain and be a focal point of ANY redevelopment plan
  •  We are requesting a comprehensive assessment for the entire site and independent engineer be allowed on the site  to inspect the Castle, before action is taken.
  • The Dep't of Building's (DOB) current building report is incomplete, erroneous and has many generalities. Unsafe, does not mean unsound.
  • It is Fiscally Irresponsible for DOB to act to demolition with OUR PUBLIC funds.

For over two years, the Coalition has been asking that funds be spent to 'secure' and 'weather-proof' the Castle anddemand a Community Vision for the 'Castle' and 6 acre site. We have the support of Councilwoman Rose and CB#1 to 're-purpose' the Castle.
